Black Lives Matter

Our nation’s history, both past and present, reflects the diminishing of, marginalizing of, and silencing of voices of color. At Acalanes, we believe in equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism.  We believe that a black person's life and well-being is important and therefore we believe that Black Lives Matter. 

Acalanes Inclusivity Pledge (Inspired by the Birmingham Pledge)

I believe that every person has worth as an individual.

I believe that every person is entitled to dignity and respect, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or national origin.  

I believe that every thought and every act of racial prejudice and other prejudice is harmful; if it is my thought or act, then it is harmful to me and our Acalanes community.  

I believe that impact matters in spite of intent.  I understand that I will be held accountable for the impact of my language and actions, even if I did not intend to cause harm. 

Therefore, from this day forward...

I will strive daily to eliminate racial prejudice and other forms of prejudice from my thoughts and actions.

I will discourage racial prejudice and other forms of prejudice by others at every opportunity. 

I will treat all people with dignity and respect

and I will strive daily to honor this pledge, knowing that the world will be a better place because of my effort.
